Hi there. I hope you are well.

Great class on Monday. We have an interesting group because there are so few of us and we represent different perspectives and disciplines.

For weekly notes, I've decided to set up this blog.  This will enable all of us to create an "alternate text" as well as access weekly collaborative postings via an RSS feed.

Here are notes from this week's class.

Here's what was discussed/considered/pondered in Theories:

Class always starts with a "one minute" (1M).  The purpose of a 1M is to establish what was reviewed the previous class meeting - "What did we do? What did you learn?"

The powerpoint is always emailed to us before class. Dr. R uses the ppt to guide discussion, but she typically asks us to review specific content on our own.  For today's class, Dr. R was modeling the way she wants us to design and share our own projects (each of us has a chapter/topic to teach to the group). The specific requirements of this assignment are in the syllabus.

After the 1M, we reviewed the pretest (see public folder)

Here are the main points that were emphasized during class

1.What is Theory?

We is the difference between a theory and a fad?

2. Hands on Activity:

The True Color activity was an opportunity for us to explore why we think the way we do about learning. We talked about our families - and how we developed the personal characteristics

3. Dr. R ended class with by sharing a brochure (this is the final element that will be required for each of us to create and use for our presentations). A brochure is not the only option, but she wants us to focus on content and provide one another with a quick guide relevant to our understanding of the topic and integrates current research (APA formatting is essential).

We created a collaborative list of hot topics in special education, and from this list we decided how to go about designing our syllabus.

Dr. R will format and post the updated syllabus on UB Learns. I have also added a hyperlink to this Blogger account. We plan to meet every week for a short amount of time to touch base and share progress.
